Highlights

The delights of Vietnam, from its cuisine to its history and culture, are yours to discover on a 12 day Luxury Vietnam small group tour.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam in the country’s north, is as chaotic as cities come and that is all part of its lure. You have a day of uninterrupted free time in Hanoi ahead of officially joining your fellow travellers, and this opportunity is the perfect way to either ease yourself or dive headfirst into local culture. Meander frenetic street markets and the lanes of the Old Town, take yourself to some of the city’s most-visited tourist sites, and waste no time savouring the flavours of Vietnamese cuisine as you search out some of the city’s best banh mi, flavourful pho, and bowls of bun cha. Your first destination with the rest of the group is the emerald water of Halong Bay and the sprinkling of limestone islands that make this landscape so recognisable. Hop aboard a boat to sail these waters on an overnight voyage that sees you dine beneath the stars and get up close to the bay’s famous  grottoes via rowboat. Greet the next day with an on-board Tai chi session, or simply by sipping Vietnamese coffee while watching the sunrise. Return to Hanoi for a half-day city tour that takes you to sights including the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Complex and Tran Quoc Pagoda.

The tours moves south to Vietnam’s central coast and the heritage facades of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed destination that has an Old Town so beautiful it looks like it was made for gracing postcards. Join an excursion to the nearby Ba Na hills to see the sweeping views offered by the Golden Bridge and the pretty blooms of Le Jardin d’Amour. Have free time in Hoi An to take in the Japanese Covered Bridge, walk along the banks of the river, or travel out to the nearby beach for a barefoot stroll along the soft sand.

Your journey continues south to the final destination of your tour: Ho Chi Minh City. The former Saigon has undergone an extraordinary amount of change in the last century and nods to this legacy can be seen throughout the cityscape. Before you delve deeper into this heritage however, you have a day trip into the wilds of the Mekong Delta. Cruise the channels of this epic waterway and make stops at fruit and bonsai gardens, coconut candy workshops and a rice paper mill. You’ll have the chance to sample fresh exotic fruits, get a peek into the goings-on of the people that live around the river, and enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant on Turtle Island. Another excursion while in Ho Chi Minh City is to the site of the Cu Chi Tunnels. This insightful visit highlights the role the tunnels played in the Vietnam War and is a solemn reminder of how this conflict impacted the lives of the Vietnamese. On your final night in Vietnam, step aboard a fantastic dinner cruise of the Saigon River to see the city illuminated with a golden glow. A half-day city tour takes you around to the city’s preeminent historical sites – Saigon Central Post Office, War Remnants Museum, Ben Thanh Market – ahead of your return flights to Australia.
