Embark on the perfect introductory itinerary to explore all the wonders of Japan, with this 10 day Highlights of Japan tour.

Catch your flight bound for the ancient city of Osaka. Enjoy free time to explore this port side city however you please, ticking off iconic sites such as the 16th Century Osaka Castle, and indulging in local delicacies including Takoyaki – deep-fried Octopus balls! Continue on to picturesque Kyoto, where the time is yours to do as little or as much as you like. Be sure to stop by the famous Golden Pavilion, an incredible Zen Buddhist temple adorned in glistening gold leaf.

Journey to Gifu, before stopping by the UNESCO World Heritage listed villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama. Visit the former government outpost of Takayama Jinya, and the idyllic city of Matsumoto, and set your sights on iconic Mt Fuji. Make your way to the top of the mountain’s famous 5th Station, to enjoy the spectacular views below. Cruise along Lake Ashi, and continue on to Yokohama, before arriving at your last stop of Tokyo.

 
 

Day 1: Australia – airplane-takeoff – Osaka

Board your flight bound for beautiful Osaka, Japan.

Day 2: Osaka

Arrive in Osaka. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel where the rest of the day is yours at leisure. The second largest city in Osaka, this bustling port town balances modern design with ancient architecture perfectly. 

Day 3: Osaka (B)

Today is yours to explore Osaka however you please. With so many incredible sights to see around the city, it’s hard to decide where to begin! Stop by one of the most recognised sites in the whole of the city, Osaka Castle, an incredible structure dating back to the 16th century. For those looking for a day full of fun and rides, why not stop by Osaka’s Universal Studios or Osaka’s popular Aquarium. Be sure to indulge in delicious local eats while you explore, with some delicacies including a savoury pancake called Okonomiyaki or the deep-fried Octopus balls call Takoyaki. There is also the option to purchase an optional day tour to Hiroshima.

Optional: Hiroshima Sightseeing tour. Transfer to Shin-Osaka train station this morning where you will catch a bullet train bound for Hiroshima. The journey will take approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, continue on to Miyajimaguchi by coach before catching a boat across to Miyajima Island. You will have a 45 minute guided tour of the natural wonders this UNESCO World Heritage listed island is home too, including the Itsukushima Shrine. It’s then back onto the boat before continuing on to Hiroshima. Visit the sites that have shaped the tragic history of this well-known part of Japan. Iconic sites you will see here include the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the site of where the atomic bomb exploded, and Genbaku Dome, the infamous building that survived the bombing in 1945. Return to the train station for your bullet train back to Osaka. Additional cost applies.

Day 4: Osaka – Kyoto – Gifu (B)

Depart Osaka this morning after breakfast to head to ancient Kyoto. Explore this wonderful city however you please, or opt to join an optional sightseeing tour. Around 4 pm, continue on wards to the town of Gifu.

Optional: Kyoto Sightseeing tour. See the sites of stunning Kyoto with a guided tour. Highlights include a visit to Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kinkaku-ji (also known as the Golden Pavilion), and the opportunity to see a traditional Kimono Fashion show. Additional cost applies.

Day 5: Gifu – Takayama – Shirakawa – Matsumoto (B)

This morning, journey to see the UNESCO World Heritage listed villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama. A part of Japan once cut off from the rest of the world, these incredible villages used to survive through the cultivation of mulberry trees and the rearing of silkworms. Spend time admiring the traditional Gassho-style houses, before continuing on to Takayama Jinya, a former government outpost. Arrive in Matsumoto later this afternoon.

Day 6: Matsumoto – Mt Fuji – Yokohama (B)

Enjoy breakfast this morning, before heading towards iconic Mt Fuji. Journey 2,300 metres above sea level to Mt Fuji’s famous 5th Station, an incredible vantage point to take in the surrounding scenery below. It’s then on to Lake Ashi, located in the nearby Hakone National Park, where you’ll enjoy a short cruise along the lake and have the opportunity to get some great photos of surrounding Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake. Arrive in Yokohama this evening. 

Day 7: Yokohama – Tokyo (B)

Drive to Tokyo this morning where you will arrive around 11 am. With check-in to your hotel room not available until 3 pm, drop your luggage at the front desk of the hotel before heading out to explore the fast-paced city however you please. There is also the option to head out on a Tokyo Sightseeing tour.

Optional: Tokyo Sightseeing tour. Be guided around this futuristic city with a guided tour. Indulge in delicious local eats with a stop by Tsukiji Outer Market, before continuing on to stunning Meiji Shrine. It’s then on to Tokyo’s famous tower where you will head to the Observation Deck to admire the incredible views from above. Additional cost applies.

Day 8: Tokyo

Today is yours to do as little or as much as you like. Perhaps head out to discover the trendy streets of Harajuku, or brave the crowds as you cross the iconic Shibuya Crossing. This is your last full day in stunning Japan so be sure to make the most of it!

Day 9: Tokyo – airplane-takeoff – Australia

Transfer to the airport today ready to board your flight back home to Australia.

Day 10: Australia

Arrive home today.

How to book:

  • Within 72 hours of completing your booking request online you will receive an email from our Travel Partner which will include a link to complete their mandatory booking form.
  • Our Travel Partners booking form must be completed within 1 week as per passport details to secure your requested travel date
  • If your requested date of departure is not available, the tour supplier will contact you directly.
  • Completion of this booking form will allow the tour supplier to secure air tickets and tour components.

Payment Information:

  • Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth – $1,020 deposit per person    
  • Adelaide – $1,340 deposit per person 
  • In addition to the deposit, peak season and interstate surcharges (if applicable) are all due at the time of booking and will be reflected at checkout
  • If you are a solo traveller, single supplements will be collected by our Travel Partner after the booking has been made
  • Final payment is due 120 days prior to travel and will be collected by our Travel Partner. If you book within 120 days of travel, you will be sent an invoice within 7 days for final payment

All optional tours are subject to availability and minimum numbers and must be pre-booked no later than 2 months before departure and payable directly to our Travel Partner in Australian dollars upon booking confirmation. Child Price: Same price as adults – Minimum age 2 years

Tipping: Tipping is not compulsory on your trip, but they can make a big difference to locals employed in the tourism industry. If you feel that your guide and driver have done an impeccable job, you can choose to give a gratuity, but this is entirely your decision.

For the services of your guide, it is suggested that you budget for AUD$10-20 per person, per day. Tipping of your driver is also appreciated and we would suggest AUD$5 per person, per day.

Airline Information: 

  • Return economy flights departing Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Perth with Japan Airways, Cathay Pacific Airlines, Qantas Airlines and their codeshare partners or similar
  • Adelaide – A $300 per person interstate surcharge applies
  • Including a minimum of 1 x checked bag up to 20kg per passenger
  • One return airfare is supplied per voucher
  • Names cannot be changed once flights have been booked. Once we receive your form and your dates are available, your booking will be completed – no further changes will be possible
  • The airfare remains non-refundable at all times

Flight Conditions:

  • Some flights may depart a day later the itinerary and involve up to 2 transits. These changes are beyond our control and are subject to availability and airline schedule changes
  • Full names (First, Middle & Surname) as per passport must be provided for ticketing. Passport Details are also required at time of booking in order to confirm your flights
  • Once your flights are confirmed and ticketed, flights are non-refundable and non-changeable
  • Flight itineraries will not be provided until 30 days prior to departure, along with final documentation
  • All flights have been booked to meet minimum connection times as per airline policy and fare rules

Schedule Changes:

  • Airline schedule changes or cancellations can happen from time to time and are beyond our control. The customer is responsible for reviewing their flight schedule prior to their departure. Webjet Exclusives endeavours to assist customers where possible, however, should any change or cancellation occur, please contact your Travel Insurance provider to check whether you are covered by your policy.

Airline Upgrade:

  • If you wish to upgrade the airline to Premium Economy or Business Class, from $3,000 per person (subject to the airline and availability). Please purchase your tour first and submit a request on your booking form. You will then be provided with the quotations. Should you wish to proceed any additional charges will be collected by our Travel Partner in Australian dollars. The airline upgrade is subject to availability. 

Arriving early/Extending your trip:

  • From $200 per person (subject to availability and applicable fare difference). If you wish to alter or extend your trip, please purchase your voucher first and submit a request on your booking form. We will then provide quotations for any alternations or extensions. Should you wish to proceed any additional charges will be collected. However if you are unhappy with the options a full refund of the voucher will be provided.
