Day 1: Australia – – Osaka
Board your flight bound for beautiful Osaka, Japan.
Day 2: Osaka
Arrive in Osaka. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel where the rest of the day is yours at leisure. The second largest city in Osaka, this bustling port town balances modern design with ancient architecture perfectly.
Day 3: Osaka (B)
Today is yours to explore Osaka however you please. With so many incredible sights to see around the city, it’s hard to decide where to begin! Stop by one of the most recognised sites in the whole of the city, Osaka Castle, an incredible structure dating back to the 16th century. For those looking for a day full of fun and rides, why not stop by Osaka’s Universal Studios or Osaka’s popular Aquarium. Be sure to indulge in delicious local eats while you explore, with some delicacies including a savoury pancake called Okonomiyaki or the deep-fried Octopus balls call Takoyaki. There is also the option to purchase an optional day tour to Hiroshima.
Optional: Hiroshima Sightseeing tour. Transfer to Shin-Osaka train station this morning where you will catch a bullet train bound for Hiroshima. The journey will take approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, continue on to Miyajimaguchi by coach before catching a boat across to Miyajima Island. You will have a 45 minute guided tour of the natural wonders this UNESCO World Heritage listed island is home too, including the Itsukushima Shrine. It’s then back onto the boat before continuing on to Hiroshima. Visit the sites that have shaped the tragic history of this well-known part of Japan. Iconic sites you will see here include the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the site of where the atomic bomb exploded, and Genbaku Dome, the infamous building that survived the bombing in 1945. Return to the train station for your bullet train back to Osaka. Additional cost applies.
Day 4: Osaka – Kyoto – Gifu (B)
Depart Osaka this morning after breakfast to head to ancient Kyoto. Explore this wonderful city however you please, or opt to join an optional sightseeing tour. Around 4 pm, continue on wards to the town of Gifu.
Optional: Kyoto Sightseeing tour. See the sites of stunning Kyoto with a guided tour. Highlights include a visit to Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kinkaku-ji (also known as the Golden Pavilion), and the opportunity to see a traditional Kimono Fashion show. Additional cost applies.
Day 5: Gifu – Takayama – Shirakawa – Matsumoto (B)
This morning, journey to see the UNESCO World Heritage listed villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama. A part of Japan once cut off from the rest of the world, these incredible villages used to survive through the cultivation of mulberry trees and the rearing of silkworms. Spend time admiring the traditional Gassho-style houses, before continuing on to Takayama Jinya, a former government outpost. Arrive in Matsumoto later this afternoon.
Day 6: Matsumoto – Mt Fuji – Yokohama (B)
Enjoy breakfast this morning, before heading towards iconic Mt Fuji. Journey 2,300 metres above sea level to Mt Fuji’s famous 5th Station, an incredible vantage point to take in the surrounding scenery below. It’s then on to Lake Ashi, located in the nearby Hakone National Park, where you’ll enjoy a short cruise along the lake and have the opportunity to get some great photos of surrounding Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake. Arrive in Yokohama this evening.
Day 7: Yokohama – Tokyo (B)
Drive to Tokyo this morning where you will arrive around 11 am. With check-in to your hotel room not available until 3 pm, drop your luggage at the front desk of the hotel before heading out to explore the fast-paced city however you please. There is also the option to head out on a Tokyo Sightseeing tour.
Optional: Tokyo Sightseeing tour. Be guided around this futuristic city with a guided tour. Indulge in delicious local eats with a stop by Tsukiji Outer Market, before continuing on to stunning Meiji Shrine. It’s then on to Tokyo’s famous tower where you will head to the Observation Deck to admire the incredible views from above. Additional cost applies.
Day 8: Tokyo
Today is yours to do as little or as much as you like. Perhaps head out to discover the trendy streets of Harajuku, or brave the crowds as you cross the iconic Shibuya Crossing. This is your last full day in stunning Japan so be sure to make the most of it!
Day 9: Tokyo – – Australia
Transfer to the airport today ready to board your flight back home to Australia.
Day 10: Australia
Arrive home today.
