Day 1: Australia – airplane-takeoff – London

Depart Australia today to begin your journey of the UK.

Day 2: London

Today, arrival in to London! On arrival, please make your own way to your hotel.

Optional: A regular shuttle service operates from all terminals to the hotel – cost is £5 per person and bookable at the airport.

London, England’s capital, set on the River Thames, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.

Day 3: London – Windsor (B,D)

After breakfast, you will be transferred from Heathrow to your Windsor hotel, where you will meet your Tour Director early in the afternoon. You will then visit nearby Windsor Castle, residence of the Queen and the largest inhabited castle in the world. Your Tour Director will host an early evening welcome drink and then after dinner at the hotel, take a brief walk around the historic town of Windsor with a local guide.

Day 4: Windsor – Oxford – York (B,D)

Little more than an hour’s drive northwest of Windsor is the city of Oxford, home of one of the world’s most famous and prestigious universities. Take a stroll through central Oxford to view some of the most famous colleges and impressive buildings, and learn how the two communities of ‘town’ and ‘gown’ co-exist. You then head north to the walled city of York, where a walking tour is the only way to access the tiny medieval streets, including the Shambles, one of the city’s narrowest alleyways. You will tour the Gothic York Minster, renowned for its magnificent medieval stained glass windows, followed by check-in to your hotel and dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 5: York – Bamburgh Castle – Edinburgh (B, D)

After breakfast, continue north, pausing for photos at a section of Hadrian’s Wall, before arriving on the Northumberland coast for a visit to Bamburgh Castle. This imposing medieval fortress, dating back to 1096, is one of the largest inhabited castles in Britain and is set high on a rocky plateau affording spectacular views along the coastline. Discover how life was for the kings, courtiers and servants as you explore the dungeons of the Keep, the King’s Hall and the Medieval Kitchen which produced vast quantities of food for the castle’s occupants. You then drive across the Scottish border and having checked into your hotel, head out for a lively Scottish evening with dinner and entertainment.

Day 6: Edinburgh (B)

After a hearty breakfast, explore central Edinburgh, starting in the 200-year old ‘New Town’, with its elegant Georgian houses. View Princes Street, the city’s premier shopping street, and see the Royal Mile, with its clusters of medieval houses. You will visit the magnificent Edinburgh Castle to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny, before spending an afternoon at leisure, when you will have time to visit some of the many museums or browse the myriad shops. The evening is also free for you to dine in one of the many local restaurants or bars.

Day 7: Edinburgh – Lake District – Liverpool (B,D)

Today head back towards England, crossing the border at Gretna Green, a small Scottish village known as the wedding capital of the UK and where eloping couples once married at the famous Blacksmith’s Shop. The journey then continues south, with the mountains beckoning you to the beautiful Lake District National Park. It is one of the most visited areas in the UK, with a stunning landscape of towering mountains, craggy hills and sparkling lakes, as well as its literary connections to William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome. Time will be spent at Dove Cottage, set on the shores of Lake Grasmere and where Wordsworth wrote some of the greatest poetry in the English language, and the adjacent Wordsworth museum, housing the world’s greatest collection of his poems and journals. Leave the lakes behind as your journey continues to Liverpool where, on arrival, you will visit the ‘Beatles Story’ to hear their music and learn about their lives and work. After dinner at the hotel, you may choose to head out to the world-famous Cavern Club.

Day 8: Liverpool – Ludlow – Cardiff (B,D)

Less than 2 hours’ drive from Liverpool and through the pretty Shropshire Hills is Ludlow, where a stop will allow time to view the 11th century Castle, perched in an ideal defensive position high above the River Teme amidst scenic and unspoilt Shropshire countryside. Dating back to the 11th century, the castle demonstrates examples of Norman, Medieval and Tudor periods. Continue south through the beautiful Welsh countryside to visit the ruins of Tintern Abbey, founded in 1131 and later to become a popular haunt of Wordsworth. Then it’s on to Cardiff and a tour of the famous castle, originating in Roman times and rebuilt through the centuries. After checking into your hotel, you will be taken for dinner and an evening of traditional Welsh entertainment.

Day 9: Cardiff – Bath – Stonehenge – London (B)

After breakfast, take a panoramic tour of Cardiff to see the main sights and points of interest of Wales’ capital city, before heading back across the River Severn into England, where you will stop at the historical city of Bath, known for its natural hot springs and grand Georgian architecture. You will visit the renowned Roman Baths and Pump Room, constructed around 70AD as a grand bathing and socialising complex, and today one of the finest preserved Roman remains in the world. Continue on to Britain’s most iconic archaeological sites, Stonehenge, where the awe-inspiring monolithic stones date back more than 5,000 years. Your visit will allow you time to step inside the ruins to view the tools and objects of Neolithic life, and to browse the many ancient artefacts within the exhibition centre. Your day ends with the drive back to London.

Day 10: London (B) 

After breakfast in the hotel, take a morning panoramic tour of Central London to see famous landmarks including Piccadilly Circus, with its statue of Eros; Nelson’s Column, flanked by huge lion statues in the centre of Trafalgar Square; Westminster Abbey and Big Ben; the Houses of Parliament. Visit the mighty Tower of London to view the many fortresses and priceless Crown Jewels, all presided over by the iconic Beefeaters in their striking and unmistakable outfits. The afternoon is free to explore some of the many other fascinating attractions of one of the world’s great cities, and these may include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the Cutty Sark in Greenwich or one of the myriad museums or galleries. The evening is free for you to dine wherever you choose and maybe take in one of the many fabulous shows in London’s dazzling West End.

At the appropriate time, make your own way to the airport for your onward flight to Dublin. On arrival, make your own way to your central Dublin hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure. Optional: You may opt to join our hassle free airport transfer from your hotel in both London or Dublin

Day 12: Dublin – Clonmacnoise – Galway (B)

Today after breakfast, make your way to the starting location to board your coach as we head west through Kildare and Offally to Locke’s Distillery. Here you have the choice for an optional tour and tasting before admiring the churches, stone crosses and round towers of the monastic Clonmacnoise. Founded by St Ciaran in the mid-6th century, it became a great centre of religion and learning, visited by scholars from all over the world. Many historical manuscripts, including the 11th century Annals of Tighernach and the 12th century Book of the Dun Cow, were written here. We then continue our drive, stopping .in a traditional pub enroute before arriving in Galway for the night. On arrival the rest of the afternoon is at leisure

Day 13: Galway – Cliffs of Moher – Killarney (B)

Today, drive through the unique Burren region to admire its barren hillsides, early Christian settlements and rare native flora and fauna. We visit the cathedral in Kilfenora. Various of the famous ‘seven crosses’ can be seen in and around the cathedral and its graveyard, notably the Doorty Cross. We then continue to the stunning Cliffs of Moher for time at leisure to explore its limestone wall reaching more than 200 metres above the Atlantic. After, continue south through County Clare and catch the ferry across the Shannon estuary to Killarney where you will spend the next three nights.

Day 14: Killarney – Dingle Peninsula – Killarney (B)

Explore the heart of Gaelic culture and tradition on the Dingle Peninsula. The Dingle Peninsula, on Ireland’s southwest Atlantic coast, is ringed by sandy beaches and craggy cliffs. The region’s an officially recognised bastion of Irish language and culture. Here see the surf beach at Inch, then travel to Slea Head, an area of ancient forts with views out to the Blasket Islands. The scenery here is truly magical and boasts weather-worn cliffs and deserted beaches. Spend the afternoon in the busy harbour town of Dingle before returning to Killarney.

Day 15: Killarney – Ring of Kerry – Killarney (B)

After breakfast we head for the classic Ring of Kerry, taking the coast road through Cahersiveen ring fort to the fishing village of Portmagee. Portmagee, a small picturesque fishing village on the Wild Atlantic Way is well known for welcoming people, lively traditions, fresh seafood, spectacular scenery. Here you have the option to cross to Valentia Island to visit the Skellig Experience before stopping for photos at Coonmakista Pass for magnificent views over the countryside. We visit Derrynane House for a walk in the beachside gardens then stop at Moll’s Gap and the Torc Waterfall on the return to Killarney.

Day 16: Killarney – Macroom – Blarney Castle – Rock of Cashel – Dublin (B)

Head east through the mountains of West Cork to Blarney Castle. Built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland’s greatest chieftans, Cormac MacCarthy, and has been attracting attention ever since. The first building in the tenth century was a wooden structure. Around 1210 A.D. this was replaced by a stone structure which had the entrance some twenty feet above the ground on the north face. This building was demolished for foundations. In 1446 the third castle was built by Dermot McCarthy, King of Munster of which the keep still remains standing. After, explore the woodland walks and mystical Rock Close then spend time at leisure in the village itself for lunch or a spot of shopping. Continue to the Rock of Cashel and view its medieval monastery. Cashel’s rich history is reflected in its built heritage, from prehistoric raths to medieval monasteries and fortified town houses. We then stop in Kilkenny to enjoy a final pint of Guinness or walk along the peaceful riverside before arriving into Dublin in the evening.
