Highlights

The history, streetscapes and culture of some of Europe’s most beloved cities are yours to discover on a 16 day Grand Europe tour.

Your time away begins as you make the picturesque drive from London to Dover. Catch a glimpse of the famed White Cliffs as you board a ferry to make the passage across the English Channel, landing in Calais once you reach French territory. Count off sightings of emblematic windmills as you venture closer to Amsterdam, the Dutch city as much known for its canals and heritage as it is for its notorious nightlife scene. A sightseeing excursion in a glass-roof boat is a great way for taking in the Amsterdam’s line-up of historic warehouses, bridges and former merchants’ houses. Move through the Rhineland countryside and make a stop in Cologne, the region’s epicentre for arts and culture. Tick off seeing the city’s impressive Gothic cathedral ahead of boarding a leisurely river cruise that see you pass terraced vineyards and fairytale-like castles as you sail along this mighty waterway.

Have a night in Innsbruck – home of the Bergisel Ski Jump and the glittering Golden Roof – and then jump the Austrian-Italian border as the tour says ‘ciao’ to time in Venice. See sights including St. Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace while aboard a private launch, and also learn about the tradition of glassblowing on a visit to a local workshop. Journey south through the regions of Veneto, Umbria and Lazio as you seek out the wonders of Rome. The treasures of the Eternal City are yours to discover as you see Vatican City and the Colosseum and make use of ample free time. The itinerary sees you travel northwards again; this time into Tuscany as you arrive in Florence. Feel inspired by the artistic charms of the Tuscan capital as you learn about Florence’s role in the Italian Renaissance movement and the world-renowned artists – da Vinci and Botticelli included – that once called this beautiful city home.

Another border crossing sees you move from Italy into Switzerland. Glimpse the glorious St. Gotthard Pass and have two nights spent in the Lucerne area. Be introduced to Lucerne and its most prolific monuments – Chapel Bridge, Jesuit Church and Lion Monument – on a guide-led orientation trip, and then choose to explore more of the city on your own terms. The final destination of your European experience is Paris. The French capital is in a league of its own, and the magic of the City of Lights is perhaps unrivalled by any other city in Europe – or the world. Get lost in a landscape of cobblestone streets, atmospheric arrondissements, mouth-watering cuisine and instantly-recognisable landmarks, including Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysees.

Travellers in pursuit of one-of-a-kind experiences can choose a tour with departure dates that line up with the Oberammergau Passion Play. The Passion Play is a centuries-old show that is only performed once a decade, in a picturesque Bavarian town in Germany. The play dates back to 1634 and depicts the final period of Jesus’ life.
