Highlights

Have time in one of the world’s most exciting cities and explore quaint waterfront towns on a 16 day New York City and Eastern Canada in the Fall cruise package.

No matter if it is your first, third or tenth time visiting New York City, it never fails to dazzle. You have four nights in the City That Never Sleeps before embarking on your Royal Caribbean cruise and, with no set itinerary or schedule, that time is yours to do with however you will. First-time visitors to New York City will undoubtedly make seeing the big-ticket landmarks – Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Fifth Avenue – a priority, and those who have trod the Big Apple’s pavements before can set about experiencing and exploring the new. Although, that’s not to say you won’t make a return visit to any favourite museums, galleries, attractions or restaurants. One of the advantages of this independent exploration is the freedom to choose where to go, how long to spend at each site, and which attractions you value seeing over others. Choose to seek out lesser-known experiences, dedicate your days to foodie pursuits, or embrace every tourist cliché associated with this marvellous metropolis.

As your adventure in New York City ends, your cruising expedition begins. Board Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas at the port and immediately set a course for quaint waterfront towns and vibrant cities in Eastern Canada. Two ports in Maine are first on the itinerary – Bar Harbor and then Portland. These charming townships promise cobblestone streets, colourful local characters, good restaurants and museums, and a close proximity to astounding natural landscapes. Much like the ports that are to follow, your visit to these towns don’t adhere to a sightseeing schedule. You choose what to see, do and experience – just be sure to return to the Vision of the Seas before it is time to depart for your next destination! Cross into Canadian waters and call into Saint John on the Bay of Fundy. Admire the nearby Reversing Rapids or delve into the quirks of the thriving art scene, and learn about the region’s maritime heritage with your visit to Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. Use Sydney as a launching pad for seeing more of Cape Breton Island, and sail into Quebec City for a French-influenced fancy of colonial architecture and ample European charm. The cruising itinerary also includes two full days at sea, and this makes the ideal opportunity to log some down time and make use of the ship’s exemplary on-board facilities such as swimming and whirlpool, excellent restaurants, theatres, fitness centre, rock climbing wall, and more.

Those wishing to spend some extra time in Canada can extend their package to include three nights post-cruise accommodation in Quebec City

Day 1: Australia – airplane-takeoff  New York City

Make your way to the airport and board a flight bound for the Big Apple! Arrive in the City That Never Sleeps and find your own way to the hotel for check in. Use the rest of the day to rest up after your flight, or choose not to waste a second of your time in NYC and immediately head out to hit the famed pavements of this always-on metropolis.

There is no other city in the world like New York City. It is, quite simply, in a league of its own. The city draws in thousands of visitors every year and is made up of five boroughs – Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan and Queens. A roll call of New York City’s sights and landmarks reads like a laundry list of some of the world’s most recognisable attractions – Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center. Then there are the experiences this city promises, from walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and strolling The High Line, to moving between first-rate museums and galleries and catching a show at one of the theatres along Broadway. It is impossible to be bored in this city – there is never not something to do. On that note, you’ll need to be properly fuelled for your explorations of the city and dining is where New York City also flexes its muscles. Feed your appetite with refined tasting menus at Michelin-starred fine diners, gargantuan pastrami and cold cut-filled sandwiches at corner delis, epic slices of pizza and pie, indulgent bottomless brunches, and baked treats from world-famous bakeries and markets.

Your time here has no set schedule or itinerary, and the next four days are entirely at your leisure. Get ready for the adventure.

Day 2: New York City

What is on the cards for your first full day in NYC? Anything you like. Be sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes as you leave the hotel and begin your independent exploration of the Big Apple. Culture vultures can make a beeline for one of the extraordinary museums and galleries, such as American Museum of Natural History, Whitney Museum of American Art, Frick Collection, Museum of Modern Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Wander past the glittering window displays of boutiques lining Madison and Fifth Avenues, or duck into any of the city’s iconic department stores – Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s – to scour the racks for fashionable new purchases and souvenirs. Movie-mad or TV-loving travellers can visit locations featured in Friends, Sex and the City, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Annie Hall, and more. See the city from above at Top of the Rock or One World Observatory, or book onto a scenic cruise along the Hudson River to in the skyline from a watery vantage point. As you jump between monuments, sights and attractions, make regular stops to sink your teeth into NYC’s culinary credentials – pastrami on rye at Katz’s Deli, a choc chip cookie from Levain, spicy lamb noodles at Xi’an Famous Foods, a hot dog from Gray’s Papaya, and banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery.

Day 3: New York City

Another day to marvel at the wonders of New York City. What neighbourhood didn’t you get to yesterday? What buildings haven’t you snapped photos of yet? There are parks to people-watch in (Washington Square Park, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden), and a plethora of markets to meander (Smorgasburg, LIC Flea Market, Union Square Greenmarket, Gansevoort Market). Of an evening, hit up one of the city’s comedy clubs to catch up-and-coming comics or already-known names in town for a quick visit. Track down an off-Broadway show for a night of theatre, or try your luck scoring last-minute seats to some of the performances along The Great White Way itself.

Day 4: New York City
