Day 2: Toronto (B)
Your first full day in Canada starts with leisure time; the day is yours to explore Toronto as you wish. You might choose to remain at the hotel and rest after the long-haul flight, or eager adventurers can immediately hit the pavement and begin seeing the capital of Ontario. Look up at the CN Tower (one of the skyline’s most recognisable landmarks) or make a beeline for one of the city’s green spaces such as Queen’s Park or High Park. Sit down to a meal at a restaurant in Queen Street West or wander between stalls and vendors at Kensington Market.
Day 3: Toronto – Niagara Falls – Niagara-on-the-Lake – Toronto (B)
The itinerary today takes you to one of Canada’s most visited natural landmarks: Niagara Falls. Hop into a boat for a joyride to the bottom of the Falls (yes, you will get splashed so make sure to dress appropriately!) and then continue with the group to Niagara-on-the-Lake. This small town, located on the shore of Lake Ontario, is known for its vineyard and wine-producing acclaim. Garner an appreciation for this praise for yourself by indulging in a tasting at a local winery before returning to Toronto.
Day 4: Toronto – Kingston – Thousand Islands Cruise – Ottawa (B)
Make the drive to St Lawrence River this morning, enjoying a pitstop in Kingston along the way. Kingston was Canada’s first capital city and there is time to explore this historic city before embarking on a scenic cruise of the Thousand Islands. Expect to see Boldt Castle, the Statue of St. Lawrence, Thousand Islands International Bridge and Zavikon Island on this excursion. The final destination for today is Ottawa, Canada’s vibrant capital, where you have an evening of free time.
Day 5: Ottawa (B)
Join a tour of Ottawa this morning, checking off Parliament Hill, National Art Gallery, Rideau Canal, Sussex Drive, ByWard market and the Canadian Mint along the way. You have the afternoon as leisure time and you may choose to spend it visiting local markets or seeing exhibits at galleries.
Day 6: Ottawa – Montreal (B)
Brush up on your French as the tour makes for Montreal, the largest city in Quebec, today. Montreal sits on an isle in the St Lawrence River and is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill that dominates the centre of the city. Montreal is an enchanting mix of old and new, featuring excellent art galleries, historic buildings, cobblestone streets, lively local markets and a magnificent food scene covering everything from French patisseries to Jewish delis and English pubs.
Day 7: Montreal (B)
Set out on a city tour of Montreal this morning. Among the sights you’ll see are Jacques Cartier Square, McGill University, Basilica of Notre Dame, Place d’Armes and St. Joseph’s Oratory. Head to the summit of Mount Royal to take in the sweeping views across the city and spend the remainder of the afternoon as free time.
Day 8: Montreal – Quebec City (B, L)
Travel to Quebec City, the only walled city in North America. Before arriving in the city however, there is a stop for lunch in the surrounding countryside. On the menu is indulgent maple products and tastes of local cuisine. You have free time once the group arrives in Quebec. Use the afternoon or evening as your chance to explore the city’s arcades and cafes, or to sink your teeth into even more delicious French-Canadian fare.
Day 9: Quebec City (B)
A tour of Quebec City introduces you to the new and old sides of the city. Plus you’ll see the city’s most important cultural and historical sites. Some of the points you may take in today include the city’s wall, the fort, Dufferin Terraces, Chateau Frontenac and the port.
Day 10: Quebec City – Montreal – – Vancouver (B)
A transfer takes you to the airport in Montreal for your one-way flight to Vancouver. Make your own way to the hotel upon arrival in Vancouver.
Day 11: Vancouver (B)
Spend the day as free time in Vancouver today.
Day 12: Rocky Mountaineer – First Passage to the West Route – Vancouver – – Kamloops (B, L)
A private coach transfers you from the Vancouver hotel to the Rocky Mountaineer station. You will be welcomed aboard and invited to settle in for the commencement of your journey on-board this iconic railway. Today’s travels sees you move through incredibly stunning scenery, from the verdant fields of the Fraser River valley, past the peaks of the Coast and Cascade mountains, and along the Thompson River. Tonight is spent in Kamloops.
Day 13: Rocky Mountaineer – First Passage to the West Route – Kamloops – – Banff Area (Canmore) (B, L)
Rocky Mountaineer staff will collect you from the hotel and bring you to the station this morning. You can then settle in for the day as breakfast is served aboard. Sit back as you watch the scenery pass by; ranchlands, Craigellachie, Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Canyon, Spiral Tunnels and the various snow-capped peaks and glaciers that make up just a part of the Canadian Rockies. A private coach will be waiting as Rocky Mountaineer pulls into Banff and you disembark to be transferred to your hotel.
Day 14: Banff Area (Canmore) (B)
Enjoy free time today. Those eager to head into Banff can catch a shuttle service (operating roughly every 30 minutes), or keen outdoor-enthusiasts can strap on their walking shoes and hit one of the trails that branches out from Canmore. Another option is to make the drive along Icefields Parkway towards the Columbia Icefield, one of the largest accumulations of ice located south of the Arctic Circle. This evening is at your leisure.
Optional: Ice Explorer to Athabasca Glacier
Take a ride on the Ice Explorer, an all-terrain vehicle, across Athabasca Glacier. This thrilling experience means you travel over the glacier while learning about the area and natural formations from an insightful driver-guide. Please note this excursion must be booked prior to departure from Australia. Additional cost applies.
Day 15: Banff Area – Lake Louise – Vernon (B)
The group follows the Trans-Canada Highway towards Vernon. There are plenty of stops and sights along the way, including the dazzling Lake Louise, Yoho National Park, Glacier National Park and Mount Revelstoke National Park. Other pitstops are Emerald Lake, Natural Bridge, Spiral Train Tunnels and Rogers pass. The evening is at leisure upon arrival in Vernon.
Day 16: Vernon – Okanagan Valley Region (B)
On the agenda today is a full-day sightseeing tour through the Okanagan Region. The region is known for its fruit and wine production, and there is an optional stop at some local wineries to sample some vintages. You might also try some produce from one of the many fruit stands that are dotted along the highway.
Day 17: Okanagan Valley Region– Vancouver (Richmond) (B)
Today is the final day on the road and the tour begins its return journey to Vancouver. There is a visit to the town of Hope and the nearby Othello Tunnels, a network of historic train tunnels and bridges that pass through solid granite walls and over the Coquihalla River. The evening is yours as leisure time upon arrival in Richmond, a part of the wider Vancouver area.
Day 18: Vancouver – Inside Passage (B, D)
A half-day sightseeing tour today takes you past Stanley Park and its Totem Poles and Prospect Point; to Chinatown to see Dr Sun Yat-Sen Park; Gastown with a visit at the Steam Clock; and then Granville Island to explore Public Market. Afterwards, a private coach ferries you to the Vancouver cruise port where you will begin embarkation for the cruise of the Inside Passage. Make yourself comfortable in your stateroom aboard the award-winning Celebrity Eclipse and attend the first of the dinners that are included as part of the cruise.
Day 19: Inside Passage (B, L, D)
Start making the most of Celebrity Eclipse’s excellent on-board facilities – swimming pools, bars and lounges, day spa – as the ship sails through this pristine environment. Alternatively, you may prefer to hang out on the deck and look out for some of the amazing wildlife, from orca whales and sea otters, to bald eagles, puffins and perhaps even bears. Be sure that your camera has plenty of storage space for all of the photos you will snap of the passing fjords and bays.
Day 20: Icy Strait Point (B, L, D)
The Tlingit Indians have resided in the Icy Strait Point region for thousands of years. Here, passengers can visit the historic cannery, see monuments commemorating local fishing heritage, or continue wildlife-spotting.
Day 21: Hubbard Glacier (B, L, D)
The glory of the Hubbard Glacier awaits today. This is the largest calving glacier on the North American continent and lucky passengers may even see an iceberg break off and begin its travels out to sea.
Day 22: Juneau (B, L, D)
The cruise makes port in Juneau, the Alaskan capital, today. This city is unique for the reason that it is completely isolated via road; there are no roads leading in or out. Juneau is totally surrounded by wilderness, including by the waters of the Gastineau Channel and the frozen landscape of the Mendenhall Glacier. Choose to head out on a float trip on the glacier (which makes up part of the Juneau Icefield) or take up the option of whale-watching, zip lining or a tour of a Capitol or Alaskan Brewing Co buildings.
Day 23: Ketchikan (B, L, D)
Fans of salmon will love today’s port destination: Ketchikan. This city has earned a nickname as the ‘Salmon Capital of the World’ but is also known for its collection of Tlingit totem poles – many of which are on display throughout the streets. Take a stroll down Creek Street to see the overwater wooden buildings or pay a visit to the museum at Dolly’s House to learn about the bygone ways of frontier life. Kayaking in Misty Fjords, hiking up Deer Mountain or shopping in the local galleries and boutiques is also on offer.
Day 24: Inside Passage (B, L, D)
Celebrity Eclipse® begins its return voyage through the Inside Passage on the way back to Vancouver. This is your last chance to make the most of the ship’s outstanding facilities and to enjoy the pristine scenery.
Day 25: Vancouver – – Australia
Disembark from the Inside Passage cruise. Please make your own way to the airport at the appropriate time to catch your return flight to Australia.
