Highlights

Three incredible and diverse experiences make up one spectacular trip with this 19 day India and Sri Lanka tour.

India is your first destination. From the moment you leave the airport, you step into a world of crowds, chaos and fascinating culture. Be shown the old and new sites of Delhi, from Red Fort and Jama Masjid to the Lotus Temple and Indian Gate, on a full-day sightseeing trip around India’s capital. Journey into the heart of Rajasthan towards Jaipur and admire the Pink City’s marvellous landmarks, including the sprawling City Palace, the gorgeous Hawa Mahal, and the imposing Amer Fort. Move to Agra, the home of Taj Mahal – perhaps the most photographed site in India. Watching the sunrise over this marble monument will be a memory that stays with you for life.

Fly from India to Sri Lanka and travel around this incredible isle. Begin in Colombo with a sightseeing city tour and then drive into the central provinces to hop between ancient palace ruins, looming rock fortresses and fresco-painted cave networks. Jump into a jeep for a safari adventure through Minneriya National Park, learn about the legend of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy, and journey into tea country for plantation visits around Nuwara Eliya.

To cap off your trip is five blissful nights in the Maldives; a destination synonymous with white-blond beaches, azure waters, gently swaying palm trees and lavish resorts. There is no itinerary for your time here; what you choose to do during the day is at your leisure. Your Maldives home-away-from-home is a Superior Beach Bungalow at Paradise Island Resort. These villas are set right on the sand and boast uninterrupted ocean views, private water-facing decks and breezy timber-accented interiors. Your stay at the resort is on a half-board package so you can enjoy delicious breakfast and dinners daily.

Day 1: Australia   airplane-takeoff–  Delhi, India

Make your way to the airport and catch your Singapore Airlines flight to India. Upon your arrival in Delhi you will be met by a tour representative and transferred to the hotel.

For those purchasing the Tour Only option, your tour starts today. Please make your own way to the hotel.

Day 2: Delhi (B)

Head out into the city for a full day of sightseeing. The first stop is the Delhi’s Red Fort, a site established by the former Mughal emperors that once ruled India. Move from the fort to Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque and one of the most popular sites in Delhi’s Old City. Visitors can climb to the top of the southern tower for incredible views across the city. Then seek out the labyrinthine stalls of Chandni Chowk, a vibrant local market boasting an incredible array of vendors and goods. Then it is onto Qutab Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world; Humayun’s Tomb, a site that inspired the design of the Taj Mahal; and finally the Lotus Temple, India Gate and the war memorial.

Day 3: Delhi – Jaipur (B)

Depart Delhi for Jaipur this morning. The journey takes approximately six hours. Arrive in the city and begin to see its most impressive landmarks, including the striking City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Albert Hall Museum. The City Palace is especially awe-inspiring with its blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture.

Day 4: Jaipur (B)

There is an early morning wake-up call; made worth it once you see the morning light hit the sandstone Hawa Mahal, also known as the Wind Palace. The honeycomb design of the palace makes it one of the city’s most recognisable sites. Afterwards, the group drives out to Amer Fort for a jeep or elephant ride from the old town into the fort’s courtyard. This unbelievable fort commands spectacular views across the countryside and offers great photography opportunities – especially if you can capture a shot of its reflection in the lake. There is a quick stop at Jal Mahal, a compact palace situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, and a block-printing workshop on the return journey to central Jaipur.

Day 5: Jaipur – Agra (B)

Depart for Agra after breakfast; this journey will take about 5 hours. Along the way there is a village visit at Abhaneri. This village is most well-known for Chand Baori, a stepwell that was built over 1000 years. It is also one of the largest stepwells in the world. Also in the village is the Harshat Mata Temple. Arrive in Agra in the afternoon.

Day 6: Agra – Delhi (B, D)

Agra is home to arguably India’s most famous monument, the Taj Mahal. This morning you’ll see the sunrise over this marble-clad beauty, a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan upon the death of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Wander the site’s symmetrical gardens and take time to appreciate the grandeur of this world-famous monument. Return to the hotel for breakfast and then check out.

The group then seeks out Agra Fort, another example of remarkable Mughal architecture. This structure is also dubbed the Red Fort and was where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son. The group’s next stop is Itmad-ud-Daulah, the first tomb in India to be made completely from marble. From here, the tour makes the return drive to Delhi (approximately 5 hours). There is a farewell dinner in Delhi and will receive a group photo momento to remember your time in India.

Please note that the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. Should Day 6 fall on a Friday, the group will head to the Taj Mahal for sunset on Day 5.

Day 7: Delhi  airplane-takeoff– Colombo, Sri Lanka (B)

A transfer takes you to the airport and you will board a flight to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. A transfer will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel for check in.

Day 8: Colombo – Dambulla (B)

Explore Colombo on a sightseeing tour this morning and learn about British, Dutch and Portuguese influences on the city. The group travels from Colombo to Dambulla Cave Temple, a network of five caverns that are bedecked with almost 150 statues and paintings of Buddha.

Day 9: Dambulla – Minneriya National Park – Sigiriya (B)

This morning, there is opportunity to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable natural landmarks. Known as the ‘Fortress in the Sky’, Sigiriya’s (or Lion’s Rock) summit is sprinkled with the remains of an ancient royal palace and its gardens. The group makes for Minneriya National Park for a thrilling jeep safari through the reserve. The park is the location of the spectacular elephant gathering; a phenomenon that sees large herds gather around a central water source during the dry season. Other creatures to be on the lookout for throughout the park include wild buffaloes, spotted deer, sloth bear, crocodiles and leopards.

Day 10: Sigiriya – Matale – Kandy (B)

Make a pitstop in Matale on the journey to Kandy. Here, you will visit an organic herb and spice plantation. Lunch can also be taken at the plantation. The group continues to travel towards Kandy and enjoys a city tour upon arrival. One of the major stops on the city tour is Kandy’s Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The temple sits within the grounds of the formal royal palace complex and is said to house the relic of one of Buddha’s teeth; one of Sri Lanka’s most divine relics. There is opportunity to watch a cultural show this evening.

Day 11: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya (B)

Move from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, a picturesque town that has a decidedly British atmosphere. Nuwara Eliya is backdropped by mountains, valleys, tea plantations and waterfalls.

Day 12: Nuwara Eliya – Negombo (B)

Travel to Negombo today, visiting Kitugala – the filming location for The Bridge on the River Kwai – along the way. Arrive in Negombo, a fishing city to the north of Colombo, to discover its house-lined canal, souvenir shops, restaurants and sites.

Day 13: Negombo – Colombo  airplane-takeoff–  Male, Maldives (B,D)

Arrive at the airport to catch a flight to Male, the capital of the Maldives. You are then transferred via speedboat to the Paradise Island Resort. The award-winning resort is surrounded by dazzling white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees and turquoise waters.

Day 14: Maldives (B,D)
