Highlights

Travel to Sri Lanka to take in its ancient sights and lush landscapes, while embracing a holistic holidaying mindset with daily yoga and accommodation at exclusive health retreats, on a 13 day Luxury Sri Lanka Wellness package

Arrive in Colombo and discover its heritage on a city tour that sees you uncover the colonial past and English, Dutch and Portuguese influences. Move away from the coast and to the richly-adorned network of caverns at Dambulla Rock Temple, and admire the statues, frescoes and artworks dedicated to Buddha (among other gods) found within the caves. See the abandoned royal ruins at Sigiriya and climb to the top of the massive rock column. Journey to Minneriya National Park for an exciting jeep safari experience through the reserve and keep your fingers crossed for elephant encounters, as well as sightings of sloth bears, spotted deer and perhaps even leopards. Continue to Kandy, a former capital of Sri Lanka, and see its best-known sights, including the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, before checking into the divine Santani Wellness Resort & Spa. This 5-star hideaway is the most serene spot with a tri-level spa, modern chalet accommodation and 48 acres of former tea plantation property at your fingertips. Even meals are a holistic affair and each guest sits down to bespoke meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Venture further south and cross into Sri Lanka’s famed tea country towards the city of Nuwara Eliya, a destination fondly called ‘Little England’ for its smattering of quaint cottages, brick mansions and green lawns. Travel to Ella by train along a route touted as one of the most astonishingly scenic in the world and tackle the hike to the summit of Little Adams Peak to cast your gaze over the breathtaking mountainous landscape. Back down on ground level, a cycling tour around Ella and the surrounding region is a perfect way to leisurely take in the stillness of rural Sri Lanka. Leave tea country behind as you seek out the sandy stretches of the west coast. Make a stop in Galle Fort and then in Koggala to see stilt fisherman before arriving at Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions. Located on the Negombo beachfront, this holistic haven is the epicentre for the Ayurvedic inclusions of your package. Vegetarian and vegan meals are catered for based on Ayurvedic body type, and you have daily consultations, yoga and treatments with the retreat’s expert staff.

Those looking to extend their time away with an exciting city escape prior to arrival in Sri Lanka can extend their package to a 16 day itinerary. This extended time away includes 3 nights in incredible Singapore, staying in a 5-star hotel located on the doorstep of famous Orchard Road.

Day 1: Australia – airplane-takeoff Colombo

Head to the airport and board your flight to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Colombo hotel for an overnight stay. Any remaining time of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2: Colombo – Dambulla (B)

Your discovery of Sri Lanka begins with a sightseeing tour around Colombo. Take in the mix of architectural influences – British, Dutch and Portuguese – and learn how Colombo transformed from a small seaport to Sri Lanka’s business and commercial epicentre. The group then heads to Dambulla to visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. This site is also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex spans more than five caves, each housing statues and paintings dedicated to Budda and some Hindu gods and goddesses. Be sure to look up to admire the ceiling frescoes!

Day 3: Dambulla – Sigiriya – Minneriya National Park – Dambulla (B)

This morning’s excursion takes you to one of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable natural landmarks: Sigiriya. This ancient rock fortress is also commonly called Lion Rock and is best-known for the palace built atop the massive rock column by King Kashyapa. After taking in the ruins of this once-abandoned site, the group continues to Minneriya National Park for a thrilling jeep safari experience. The park is one of the most famous in Sri Lanka and is the location of the elephant gathering phenomena; this seasonal event sees huge herds of elephants convene around the park’s water catchments. It makes for a truly spectacular sight. Some of the other wildlife you might spot while touring the park including sloth bear, spotted deer, crocodiles, jackals and perhaps even a slinky leopard. Return to the hotel in Dambulla afterwards.

Day 4: Dambulla – Sigiriya – Matale – Kandy (B, D)

The group sets out for Kandy today. Enroute there is a stop in Matale to visit an organic spice and herb plantation where you can see how some of Sri Lanka’s most renowned aromatics – cinnamon, cardamom, pepper – are grown and harvested. Lunch is at leisure at the plantation. Arrive in Kandy, a former capital of Sri Lanka, and join a city tour. This sightseeing excursion takes you past upper lake rive and the market square, among other notable attractions. You will also see myriad of shrines, temples and monasteries around the city, though none are more famous than the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Visit this acclaimed site and learn about the temple’s most prized treasure – a relic of one of Buddha’s teeth. Check into the Santani Luxury Wellness Resort & Spa and have dinner at the hotel. The world-acclaimed retreat is a true sanctuary for the soul and was the first purpose-built resort of its kind in Sri Lanka. Set on a 48-acre former tea plantation, the retreat boasts contemporary chalet accommodation, a tri-level spa with hydrotherapy facilities, and a view-blessed dining space where you enjoy a bespoke meal plan created for you by the internationally-trained chefs.

There is also a cultural dance show tonight.
