Today you will be transferred from Chengdu to Yichang by bullet train. Upon arrival, you will board the Yangtze River Cruise ship and begin your memorable 4-night cruise down the Yangtze River.

Start the morning with a morning exercise on board in the presence of the beautiful Three Gorges Dam. Spend your day out on an optional excursion or relax on board the cruise ship. This evening you will return to the ship and attend the Captain’s Welcome Banquet and enjoy the evening entertainment with a Chinese dancing ball.

Today you will explore the ancient wonders of Xi’an. For a period of more than 1,000 years, Xi’an served as China’s capital city and remains home to a great number of precious relics and historical sites. Your tour today will include a visit to the Terracotta Warriors and the lively Moslem Street. The Terracotta Warriors Site is considered the eighth wonder of the world and was discovered by accident in 1974. You will see the army of over 7,000 soldiers, archers, horses and chariots that has guarded Emperor Qin’s tomb since 210BC. Each figure is unique and the painstaking repair and evacuation continues to this day. After lunch, you will walk through the famous Moslem Street, where many souvenirs and delicious local snacks can be sampled.

Day 8: Xi’an –airplane-takeoff– Australia (B,L)

 Today you will begin with a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda. The temple was originally used by a large team of scholars to translate the Buddhism Scriptures into Chinese and subsequently became a holy place for pilgrims. You will then continue on to the Provincial Museum, which documents China’s archaeological finds which date as far back as the Neolithic Age (20,000 years ago). Your next visit will be to the Ancient City Wall, which was built in 194 BC and is the oldest and best preserved ancient city wall in all of China. You will then be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.

Today you will board a high-speed train to the capital city of Beijing. Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to relax and prepare for your full day tour tomorrow.

Day 10:  Beijing (B)

After enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, you will visit to Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City to discover Beijing’s imperial treasures. Stand in Tiananmen Square, one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world before progressing on to the Forbidden City. Enter the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, once the exclusive domain of the Ming Dynasty, for an exclusive tour through this vast complex of courtyards and lanes.

Optional Tour (additional cost applies): Hutong Tour – Take a rickshaw tour of the traditional Hutong areas famous for the old-style buildings, and time-honoured workshops. Enjoy a meal with a local family before retiring to your hotel for the evening.

Day 11: Beijing (B,L)

Travel into the rugged mountain landscapes north of the city to the magnificent Great Wall of China. Once on top of this ancient defensive structure, you’ll find that some sections are quite steep, but the views are magnificent and the experience is truly unforgettable. You will then learn about Jade, China’s most precious and celebrated stone, and its manufacturing process at the largest Jade factory in Beijing. Later, visit the 2008 Olympic Games Sites including the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube.

After your day of exploring, experience the oriental foot massage at a traditional Chinese medical centre where you will learn about alternative treatments for illness and have the chance to consult a Chinese Medical professional.

Day 12: Beijing (B)

In the morning, you will practice Tai Chi in the Temple of Heaven. Tai Chi is an internal martial art system which places emphasis on the development and control of Chi (consciousness) energy within the body. The Temple of Heaven a sprawling complex of religious buildings located in the south-eastern section of central Beijing. The site was constructed by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties who would host annual ceremonies of prayer for good harvest here. Afterwards, visit the Silk Factory Outlet to learn about silk, the very trade item which started the famous Silk Road, and its delicate manufacturing process.

Optional tour (additional cost applies): Visit the Summer Palace, the largest royal park in China that looks over the stunning Kunming lake and for hundreds of years, the summer residence of Chinese royalty and their families. Today it is a UNESCO world heritage site and a sacred retreat for locals and tourists.

  • Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth– A $350 per person interstate surcharge applies. Payable direct upon completing your booking form 
  • We are unable to guarantee which airline you will travel with as flights will be booked subject to promotional fare availability for your travel dates. Including minimum 20kg of checked baggage per passenger (actual limit is subject to airline).
  • Customers wishing to choose their preferred airline – please purchase your voucher first and request your preferred airline in the ‘special requests’ field when submitting your booking form. Please note, this is a request basis only.
  • One return airfare is supplied per voucher
  • Names cannot be changed once flights have been booked. Once we receive your form and your dates are available, your booking will be completed – no further changes will be possible.
  • The airfare remains non-refundable at all times.

A $200 per person “breakaway” charge will apply per person plus any applicable fare and tax difference.
