Journey to one of the most rugged, magnificent and remote landscapes in the world on this 15 day Adventure to Antarctica.
Antarctica is truly a bucket list travel destination; there is nowhere else in the world like it. Argentina serves as your gateway to Antarctica on this tour and you disembark on this expedition cruise from Ushuaia, a city widely thought of as the southernmost in the world. The ship taking you on this incredible voyage is Hurtigruten’s MS Fridtjof Nansen, a newly-built vessel that combines state-of-the-art technology and design with all of the comforts needed for an unforgettable journey. Some of the facilities you have access to while on-board include the Nansen Science Center, a hub for learning and the HQ of the Expedition Team; plus a trio of excellent restaurants and a library, wellness centre, observation lounges, outdoor decks and even an infinity pool and hot tubs.
The course to Antarctica begins by crossing the Drake Passage, the stretch of water between Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands. These sailing days can be spent making the most of the MS Fridtjof Nansen’s facilities, although travellers will definitely want to make time to attend any of the naturalist-delivered lectures, presentations or film screenings scheduled – all offer great insight into the landscape and history of Antarctica. It is then time to step foot on Antarctica and to do so you’ll jump into a Zodiac small boat for a thrilling excursion to shore. (Please note that landings and shore excursions are weather permitting). The expedition will attempt to make several shore landings throughout the time you’re in the area. And as well as marvelling at the frozen wilderness, you also have opportunity to see abandoned whaling stations and exploration bases, plus some of the wildlife that Antarctica is most famous for. Tip: keep your eye out for whales if you’re on the observation deck on any at-sea days – sightings are common! Some of the locations you may visit include Deception Island, Half Moon Island, Yankee Harbour and Paradise Harbour, among others.
Return to the mainland and spend time in Buenos Aires before flying home. The graceful capital of Argentina is brimming with heritage facades, culturally-important sights and lively entertainment and dining scenes. You will get to know Buenos Aires’ top landmarks on a guided city tour and you can expect to see landmarks such as Casa Rosada, Plaza de Mayo, 9 de Julio Avenue, La Recoleta and the cemetery where Eva Peron is laid to rest.
