Highlights

Voyage from an elegant Italian city to ports dotted around the Adriatic, Mediterranean and Red Seas, and into the waters of the Indian Ocean on the way to South Africa with this 33 day Europe to Africa cruise with Kruger safari.

Your journey begins in the ever-elegant city of Venice and then sees you cross the Adriatic to Split, the second-largest city in Croatia. Explore Split’s magnificent Diocletian’s Palace and other Roman ruins, and move from one ancient culture to another as the cruise crosses into the Mediterranean with its sights set on two picture-perfect Greek ports – Heraklion and Rhodes. Move around historic Old Towns, venture beyond city limits to archaeological sites, and get a taste of authentic Greek cuisine all in the name of further fuelling your sightseeing. Pass through the famed Suez Canal – the man-made waterway that links the Mediterranean with the Red Sea – and arrive into Aqaba in Jordan. Dip a toe into the beautiful Red Sea from Aqaba’s pebbly beaches, or take a deep breath and go underwater to discover the incredible coral reefs and marine life. There are more watery wonders to uncover at Eilat in Israel, including some sites where you might be able to paddle alongside dolphins and sea turtles!

Leave Europe and the Middle East behind as your cruising itinerary takes you towards the Indian Ocean. A raft of at-sea days is the perfect opportunity to better acquaint yourself with the elegant cruise liner you’re sailing upon. The MSC Musica has as much to keep you occupied on-board as the ports the itinerary has you visit. There are bars and lounges for relaxing and sipping sundowners; a whirlpool and sundecks for lazy paddles and soaking up Vitamin D; a theatre, casino and library when you’re in the need of down time; and a cluster of excellent restaurants and eateries for you to take your meals at. You soon arrive at your ports in the Indian Ocean. All have a distinct French flavour thanks to colonial legacies, from Port Victoria in the spectacular Seychelles, to Port Louis in Mauritius and La Possession on Reunion Island. This trio of stops sees you have to chance to experience interesting local museums, vibrant covered markets, delicious cuisine, and unspoiled beaches.

The final leg of your itinerary has you disembark the MSC Musica in Durban, a city in South Africa that is known as being a melting-pot of African, Indian and colonial influences. You aren’t in Durban for long however though, because a transfer whisks you away to catch your flight to Nelspruit Airport – a popular touch-point for those arriving to experience Kruger National Park. This world-famous reserve is your destination, and you’ll be taken to check into a luxury lodge upon your flight landing. Spend the next three nights here, indulging in sumptuous three-course dinners every night and enjoying a standard of personalised service not offered at most hotels. The cherry on top however are the open-air game drives. The first happens at sunset and you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled and ears pricked for sightings of elusive nocturnal wildlife, including honey badger, porcupine, serval and sidestriped jackal. Head back into the park the following morning for a full-day game drive that may see you come across the famed Africa Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and Cape buffalo) as well other feathery, furry and scaly residents. An unforgettable way to end an already memorable trip!

Day 1: Australia – airplane-takeoff – Venice

Make your way to the airport and board your flight that will take you to Venice, the iconic city of canals in Italy.

Day 2: Venice (B, D)

Benvenuto a Venezia! Your flight lands in the city dubbed ‘Queen of the Adriatic’, the departure point for your magnificent cruise aboard the glittering MSC Musica. Make your own way to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day exploring Venice at your leisure before your cruise sets sail tomorrow.

Day 3: Venice (B, D) cruise-icon

The ship remains docked until 5pm this evening. Once you have settled into your cabin you can use any remaining time to get out and see what you can of Venice before returning to the ship for departure.

Day 4: Split (B, L, D) cruise-icon

The MSC Musica is scheduled to arrive into the Croatian port city of Split at 8am. This is the second-largest city in Croatia and is home to ruins dating back to the heyday of Ancient Rome. It also has a pretty waterfront promenade, excellent seafood restaurants, and an imposing backdrop of the Dalmatian mountains. Use your day in Split to see the enormous Diocletian’s Palace and the historic Saint Domnius Cathedral, or explore the area around the Riva Harbour.

Day 5: At Sea (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Your first full day at sea is the perfect opportunity to acquaint yourself further with the facilities and opportunities offered aboard the MSC Musica. This elegant cruise liner comes boasting swanky bars and lounges, casino room, library, theatre, day spa, pool areas, and a number of restaurants where you can take breakfast, lunch and dinner (all included in your package!). Get to know the deck plans and lay out of the ship, scope out the menus at each of the eateries, or mingle with fellow passengers.

Day 6: Heraklion (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Heraklion is the capital of the Greek isle of Crete. It also goes by the name of Iraklio, and is most well-known by visitors for the Palace of Knossos (also known as the Palace of Minos). This sprawling archaeological site is located just outside the city and is one of the main attractions on the island. Other things to do with your day in Heraklion is wander the Old Town area, explore the Venetian harbour and historic fortress, walk along one of the white sandy beaches, or find a local hole-in-the-wall tavern to savour authentic Greek food.

Day 7: Rhodes (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Delve into the history of Rhodes today. The largest of Greece’s Dodecanese Islands has a rich and fascinating legacy, including having been occupied by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Take a walk along the medieval Street of the Knights in the Old Town, and discover the Palace of the Grand Masters as well as some of the neighbouring mosques and hammams. Head up the Clock Tower for a gorgeous outlook of the azure Aegean Sea. The countryside is also dotted with charming traditional villages, vineyards and even a 15th-century castle.

Days 8: At Sea – Suez Canal Transit (B, L, D) cruise-icon

The day is spent sailing until late this evening when the MSC Musica begins its transit through the Suez Canal. This waterway connects the Mediterranean and Red Seas, and has been used as a direct route between Europe and Asia since its construction in the mid-19th century.

Day 9: At Sea – Suez Canal Transit (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Continue moving through the Suez Canal today, and enjoying the amenitites on-board your cruise.

Day 10: Aqaba (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Port is made in Aqaba, a resort city in Jordan, at about 9am this morning. The Red Sea waters off Aqaba boast some of the most incredible diving sites in Jordan, and there are ample water sports opportunities and beach resorts for those that don’t want to don a full wet suit and oxygen tank. History-lovers may want to check out Aqaba Fortress, and those interested in learning more about Jordanian culture can visit the Sharif Hussein bin Ali Mosque.

Day 11: Eilat (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Move from one popular Red Sea resort town to another as you sail around the coast from Aqaba to Eilat in Israel. Thanks to its calm currents, the waters off the Eilat shore are teeming with vibrant coral reefs and marine life, including sea turtles, anemones, shoals of fish and even dolphins. Rent a snorkel or diving gear to explore Coral Reef Nature Reserve. Remain on dry land to ascend the summit of Mount Yoash, soak up the sun on Mosh Beach, or head away from the main city to discover the magical Hidden Lake.

Day 12: At Sea (B, L, D) cruise-icon

MSC Musica begins its route away from Europe and the Middle East towards the superb Indian Ocean, and the next few days are spent entirely at sea. Take this ideal opportunity to truly unwind, either holing up in your cabin or making use of the leisure facilities aboard.

Days 13 – 18: At Sea (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Use this time to capitalise on the line-up of leisure and entertainment on-board. Attend tribute, dramatic and musical performances inside the Teatro dell’Opera (bookings required for evening shows), or look up the ship’s daily schedule of activities to attend things like dance lessons, language-learning sessions, card games, early morning aerobics, and even bingo. There is also the arcade if virtual gaming is your thing, or you can test your luck with a roll of the dice at one of the tables inside the Casino.

In the mood for a new outfit now that you’re one day out from stepping foot into a new destination? Browse the racks at boutiques for pieces to add to your cruising wardrobe, or have your eye taken by all things that glitter and sparkle inside the ship’s jewellery and accessories store. Two other shops – Logo and a duty-free offering – are also aboard for those wanting to indulge in additional retail therapy.

Up the ante on relaxation mode by giving in to the MSC Musica’s indulgent pampering offerings. Book in for a divine treatment in the MSC Spa therapy rooms, or stretch out on one of the daybeds inside the Relax Room. There is also a Turkish bath and steam room, and fully-equipped gymnasium for those travellers that prefer to work up a sweat. Those in need of Vitamin D can seek out the lounges at the Top 16 Exclusive Solarium.

Perhaps have a lazy morning with a lie-in in your cabin before heading to the sumptuous breakfast buffet. Passengers that prefer to eat in their cabins can even request a continental breakfast be delivered to their door (room service style).

Day 19: Port Victoria (B, L, D) cruise-icon

It’s time to stretch your legs after those days at sea as the MSC Musica arrives into Port Victoria in the Seychelles. Port Victoria is the low-key capital of this pristine archipelago and is home to an energetic Creole culture, as well as a covered seafood market, French-inspired eateries and architecture, lush botanic gardens, and an interesting National Museum of History. The MSC Musica docks in Port Victoria overnight.

Day 20: Port Victoria (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Have another day to immerse yourself in the charm and culture of Port Victoria. Departure time is scheduled for 6pm.

Days 21 – 22: At Sea (B, L, D) cruise-icon

You have the next two days at sea as the MSC Musica voyages to its next destination within the Indian Ocean. Continue to laze about on one of the ship’s sundecks, attend a performance at the theatre, indulge with world-class cuisine at the great restaurants, or cosy up with a read in the library.

Day 23: Port Louis (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Say bonjour this morning to Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. Embrace the Francophile atmosphere, from the colonial-touched cityscape to the French-influenced cuisine. Head to the buzzing Central Market to get a taste of local life or pick up some keepsakes to bring back home with you, or visit some of the interesting museums such as the Blue Penny Museum, the Photography Museum or the Mauritius Postal Museum. Wander along Place d’Armes, or explore the British side to Port Louis’ history at Fort Adelaide.

Day 24: Port Louis (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Missed out on seeing or doing something in Port Louis yesterday? The MSC Musica remains docked in port until about 5pm, so there is ample time to tick off those to-dos you haven’t yet experienced.

Day 25: La Possession (B, L, D) cruise-icon

Your final port within the Indian Ocean is La Possession on Reunion Island. La Possession sits between the island’s capital of Saint-Denis and the commune of Le Port. The area surrounding La Possession is brimming with hiking trails, beautiful beaches and waterfalls. Seek out a nearby lookout point for a great vantage of Piton des Neiges, or make a beeline for Saint-Denis for the capital’s museums, monuments and eateries.

Days 26 – 28: At Sea (B, L, D) cruise-icon

The next three days of the itinerary are dedicated to sailing, as the ship sets out on the final leg of its journey towards Africa. Make the most of your remaining days aboard by squeezing in treatments at the day spa, rolls of the dice in the casino, favourite cocktails at the bars and lounges, and laps in the whirlpool.

Day 29: Durban – airplane-takeoff – Kruger National Park (B, D)

MSC Musica arrives into Durban in South Africa at about 7am this morning. Disembark at the appropriate time and then be met by a transfer who will take you to the local airport to board a quick domestic flight to an airport near Kruger National Park. A transfer to your luxury accommodation awaits and will see you taken to the lodge for check in. You have the next three nights at the lodge and your time here includes daily breakfast plus sumptuous three-course dinners every evening.

Day 30: Kruger National Park (B, D)

You have this morning as leisure time to relax at the lodge and chat with other guests. This evening, board a safari vehicle for a spectacular sunset game drive through Kruger National Park. This excursion offers a front-row seat to spotting some of the park’s nocturnal residents – honey badger, porcupine, serval and sidestriped jackal, among others.

Day 31: Kruger National Park (B, D)

Set an early alarm because you’re not going to want to miss this morning’s spectacular full-day game drive through the park. Have your camera poised and ready to go as you journey through this legendary landscape on the lookout for some of the park’s most famous critters, including the Africa Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo and rhinoceros. This experience is your window into seeing these animals in their natural habitat, and your expert guide will be on-hand to answer any questions you have about the animals you see and the wider park. The game drive lasts between six to eight hours, and you are returned to the lodge in the afternoon. Tonight is the final night of your tour and is a great opportunity to reminisce about your travels over a magnificent dinner with your fellow guests.

Day 32: Kruger National Park – airplane-takeoff – Johannesburg – airplane-takeoff – Australia (B)

You will be picked up from the lodge at the necessary time and transferred to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. You then catch your connecting flight to begin the return journey back to Australia.

Day 33: Australia

Arrive back in Australia today.
